This B&M Short Throw Shifter has been designed to work on most 1991- 2001NissanSentra,1995-1998Nissan 200SX (US only), 1993-1997 Nissan Alitma,1990-1994Nissan Pulsar GTiR, 1991-1999 Nissan Sunny, 1995-2001 Nissan Maxima,and 1999-2000 Infiniti G20 models equipped with a manual transmission and includes a B&M Billet Aluminum Shift Knob. It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter feel. Check the tool list at the end of these instructions for the tools required to install your B&M Short Throw Shifter. Installation of the B&M Short Throw Shifter can be accomplished by anyone with minimal mechanical experience.
INTRODUCTION
The B&M Short Throw Shifter can be installed in less than an hour by carefully following the instructions. Read all instructions first to familiar- ize yourself with the parts and procedures. This kit contains all the parts necessary to install the shifter.
DISASSEMBLY
We suggest the vehicle be allowed to cool for an hour or two before you begin since you will be working around the exhaust system. The vehicle should be raised so there is at least 2 feet of ground clearance for ease of installation and safety.
STEP 1. Unscrew the stock shift knob. (NOTE: ON SOME VEHICLES THE KNOB HAS BEEN SCREWED ON WITH ADHESIVE. IN THESE CASES IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO DESTROY THE STOCK SHIFT KNOB IN ORDER TO REMOVE IT).
STEP 2. Carefully remove the center shifter console panel by unsnapping the four retainer clips and lifting out and over the shift stick (See Figure #1).
STEP 3. Pull the center lip of the internal rubber shift boot over the stock shifter base.
STEP4.Raise and support the vehicle. CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS RIGIDLY AND SECURELY SUPPORTED, JACK STANDS, WHEEL RAMPS OR A HOIST WORK BEST, DO NOT USE JACKS ALONE.
STEP 5. Unhook the two rubber exhaust hangers near the catalytic converter and the hanger aft of the converter, then carefully lower the exhaust pipe. It may be helpful to place a small crowbar between the exhaust pipe and the floorpan.
STEP 6. Using a deep 10mm socket and drive, unscrew the nuts that attach the center heat shield. Then slide the shield back and out of the way (NOTE: it is not necessary to fully remove the heat shield).
STEP 7. Using a metric socket and drive,and a metric open ended wrench, remove the nut and bolt attaching the bottom of the shift lever to the change rod. Carefully un-hook the centering….
