To original Nissan radio is mounted to a center dash assembly which contains not only the radio but air conditioner controls, and two pockets below the radio. When replacing the radio, this entire assembly must be removed first, then the Nissan radio can be unscrewed and removed and a new replacement radio can be installed.
STEP 1: Located directly above the air conditioner controls is a contoured plastic panel which contains the clock, hazard switch, defrost switch, and center dash air conditioner vents. This panel must be removed. This panel is snapped into the dash and is difficult to remove.
The Install Doctor recommends using a flat head screwdriver to unsnap this panel. Insert the tip of the flat head screwdriver between the lower right corner of the plastic contoured dash panel and the softer dash board. SLOWLY, pry the panel up. Continue this with all 4 corners of the contoured panel until it begins to unsnap and free from the main dash board assembly.
STEP 2:
Once the contoured plastic dash panel has loosened from the dash, grab the top of the panel (above the air vents) and pull firmly until the panel completely separates from the dash.
STEP 3:
Once the contoured dash panel has separated from the dash, pull the panel forward and turn it so you can see the connectors on the rear of the panel. You should notice 3 connectors attached to the rear of the panel. Unplug all connectors. Once the connectors have been unplugged, completely remove the contoured panel and set it aside. (as seen in photo for STEP 4)
STEP 4:
Now that the upper dash panel has been completely removed, you will be able to see the screws that secure the top of the radio/ air conditioner assembly. Locate and remove two (2) phillips screws (as seen in the photo above).
