Applying and connecting to M3/E46 and M5/E39 The application of the EX310 is rather easy. One should be cautious, though, for any mistake might lead to the destruction of the car electronics and/or the EX310. For the connection of the wires we recommend BMW connectors 1378465 and 1378460 or wire connectors, which are available in car spare part shops.
Required tools: Imbus screwdriver 5mm
Wire cutter
Squeeze pliers depending on which connection plug is used
• In order to attach the EX310 module the engine control unit, which can be found within a case located inside the splashboard to the right when facing the engine, has to be exposed
• Remove the lid of the interior-air filter’s case
• Loosen the air shaft at the right side of the case
• Remove clamp at the front of the shock absorber dome
• Remove case of interior-air filter
• Remove the four imbus screws of the engine control unit’s lid and remove it
• Locate plug #4 of the control unit (fourth from the car’s outside)
• Cut the cable to pin 22.
M5/E39 : Yellow cable with green line
M3/E46 : White cable with green line
If in doubt about which is the designated cable please count from the plug. Connect the end of this cable, which is connected to the control unit, with the grey one of the EX310. The cable’s end coming from the vehicle’s cable harness has to be attached to the blue one of the EX310.
