Installation of the side strakes should taoe approximately 30 minutes per side to complete following these simple instructions. Allow yourself plenty of time. There is no need to rush and potentially make mistakes that could lead to additional work or worse, damage to your new strakes. Please read through these instructions entirely before beginning the installation so you are familiar with the installation steps.
CAUTION: The strakes you have purchased are made of cast urethane and painted using high quality automotive finish paints. Like any automotive finish, your strakes are susceptible to nicks and scratches. Like the finish on your RX-8, these strakes, if lightly scratched, can be wet sanded and buffed to a high gloss using high quality automotive sanding paper and polish.
Before you begin, turn your front wheels so that they allow plenty of working room on the side of the car where you are installing the strakes. This makes the whole process much easier.
1. Start by locating the four retaining clips inside the fender well and remove them. These are made of plastic and can be damaged. Use care. They only turn ź of a turn counterclockwise to release them. Once released, simply pull them out to gain access to the backside of the fender vent.
2. Remove the two lower clips first along with the trim they are retaining …
3. Followed by the two clips retaining the fender liner
4. Next, reach between the liner and fender and release the retaining clips that hold the fender vent in place. There are six clips (two each near the top, middle and bottom), but only two or three need to be released to start removal of the vent. Release the clips by squeezing and gently pushing the vent out of its recess.
