Discard the original dish cushion plates. The original dish cushion plates may have damaged the drum about .250” from the piston top ledge area. Check and ensure that all burrs have been filed away. Install the piston, followed by the Alto Spacer Plate. Next install the Alto Wave Cushion Spring. Install a steel plate, friction plate, steel plate, friction plate and finally the top pressure plate and snap ring. Air check the drum setup several times to seat all the components.
Check that the clutch clearance is .020” (0.5mm) to .031” (0.8mm) by inserting a feeler gauge between the snap ring and the top pressure plate. The feeler gauge should be inserted directly over the raised peaks of the Alto Wave Cushion Plate. This will be the tightest clearance area.
NOTE: Install the Wave Cushion Plate and mark the top of the reverse drum with a felt pen directly above the peaks BEFORE installing the clutch plates and pressure plate. This way you can check clutch pack clearance at the highest portion of the wave spring.
